Zoltán Kovári, PhD

Zoltán is the managing partner of Kovári LLC. As a patent attorney he deals with patents, SPCs, trademarks, utility models, designs and law enforcement cases where IP rights are involved.

He started his career as a patent attorney in 2004 at Advopatent Office of Patent and Trademark Attorneys. In 2008 he founded Kovári Patent and Trademark Attorneys LLC, as an independent Hungarian IP law firm.

He acquired his chemical engineering and certified biological engineering qualifications at the Budapest University of Technology; he then obtained his Ph.D. in the field of structural biology at the Eötvös Loránd University. After graduation, he worked for Gedeon Richter Plc. for four years in discovery research at the computer assisted drug discovery team, and simultaneously he spent his time as a patent attorney trainee. He has also worked as a researcher at the Institute of Enzymology of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences Biological Research Centre. During his career in the life sciences he dealt with small and macromolecular structure discovery both on the experimental and theoretical level, he was a pharmaceutical research project leader and was involved in protein cloning projects. He has presented his scientific work at conferences and in international publications.

He regularly gives classes in English in the field of intellectual property protection at the Károli Gáspár University of the Reformed Church in the LL.M. programme.

Memberships: Hungarian Association for the Protection of Industrial Property and Copyright (MIE) – member; Institute of Professional Representatives before the European Patent Office (EPI) – member of the Disciplinary Committee; Hungarian Group of the International Association for the Protection of Intellectual Property (AIPPI) – Secretary General; Body of Experts on Industrial Property – member of the presidium; International Trademark Association (INTA) - member.

He is a Hungarian patent attorney, and also passed the European Qualifying Examination (EQE) for professional representatives before the European Patent Office (EPO).

His work in the field of intellectual property was recognized with the Jedlik Ányos Prize in 2023.
